Elon Musk’s X Banned in Brazil After Judge’s Ruling
Brazil has outlawed Elon Musk’s social media platform X as a result of a Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes judgment. Musk defended X as a safe space for free speech, but the accusations that it was used to disseminate misinformation led to a protracted legal struggle that resulted in the ban.
Court-Ordered Block
Due to X’s alleged disobedience of a court order to delete specific accounts, internet service providers were ordered on Friday to limit access to the site in Brazil.
The choices made here affect almost 215 million individuals in the country. The BBC reports that anybody who try to use a VPN to get around the restriction risks fines of up to 50,000 reais ($8,900).
Impact on Crypto Community
Brazilians are no longer able to access X, a platform that has long served as a center for the Bitcoin sector, due to the prohibition. Former Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has supported Nostr and Bluesky, two alternative platforms. A Bluesky developer noticed a notable spike in platform traffic after the restriction.
