(Last Updated On: April 27, 2019)

Ethereum evolved initially in 2015 and has gained popularity since these two years, becoming the smartest cryptocurrency and 2nd most valuable coin in the world with a market cap value of almost 5 Billion dollars.

Ethereum has been everywhere now and can be bought almost on every known exchange with a huge user base the demand is also increasing, but storing cryptocurrency is always considered a challenge by one as there are a number of things to consider before choosing a wallet including Authenticity, Options, Interface, Security.

In this article, we are going to cover the 5 best Ethereum wallets to consider in 2018.

Hardware Wallets

If one is really concerned about security than there are no other options except for Hardware wallets, However, these wallets may not be free but not expensive as well from price range between $50 to $100 exclusive of shipping charges but these Hardware wallets are secure because of cold storage or offline storage and have the ability to store not only Ethereum and Bitcoin but more than a dozen alternative coins.

Some of the most popular choices in Hardware wallets can be,

  • Ledger Nano S
  • Trezor T
  • KeepKey

Coin Base Ethereum Wallet

For simple newbies coin base ethereum wallet might work as a popular exchange for buying coins also provides a standalone Bitcoin and Ethereum wallet which is as easy to use as or

But however, it is a web-based wallet and there are many things to consider before storing coins as the private keys are stored with coin base, which actually means that they can control your funds and can even shut down your wallet in case of anything suspicious including any illegal activity.

One of the best Desktop wallets I have experienced is Exodus, this wallet supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many other alternative coins. The User Interface and the extended functionality makes it apart from other wallets available.

There are no limitations the private keys are not stored with the servers but are stored on your Computer and users are responsible and owner of their coins, Exodus is not 100% open source only some parts can be reviewed by the community.

This wallet is currently available for Desktop only with the versions on Windows, Mac, and Linux and is not available on any mobile device.

To receive in Ethereum user can simply go into Wallet click on Ethereum and then receive, not only ethereum but any coin can be received simply by the same process.

Jaxx Desktop/Mobile

My favorite Desktop and Mobile wallet is Jaxx, this wallet was developed by a group of Entrepreneurs and based in Canada and started functionality in early 2017, Jaxx supports Ethereum, Bitcoin, and many other alternative coins.

Same like Exodus both the easy to navigate and clean User Interface plus the extended functionality makes it on top of my list when it comes to a Desktop based wallet. Jaxx is also available for Mobile devices on both App and Play store.

Unlike Exodus and Coin base wallet this wallet supports both ETH and Ethereum Classic (ETC) as well.

Receiving Coins are really easy you have to add currency from the menu and then you will get an address for receiving and you can also send Ethereum.

Jaxx is not completely open source but the code is available on the official website and can be reviewed by the user, Jaxx does not save any type of private keys and instead, they are stored in your computer or device which make the users the owner and responsible for their Ethereums.

The official web-based wallet for storing Ethereum is MyEtherWallet which allows users to send, receive or store ETH tokens online and is completely open source.

Just like many other wallets MyEtherWallet is easy to navigate and has an easy to Use Interface, this wallet does not store any type of Private keys and the users are responsible for their coins and completely own them.

The wallet is HD and allows users to download their backup pins and keys that can be used for future purposes and in any case user losing their accounts or funds.

MyEtherWallet strongly recommends downloading MetaMask which is an extension for browsers which allows helping to store the private keys and prevents users from surfing scam websites using MyEtherAddressLookup (a service provided by Ethereum to detect scam cryptocurrency website).

MyEtherWallet has a countless number of features at is an official wallet for storing ETH, more information can be found on the official website.

Coinomi Mobile Wallet

This mobile wallet has made our list due to its amazing and unique functionality. Coinomi is a mobile-based multicurrency and multipurpose mobile wallet available on both Android and iOS devices.

This mobile wallet has got amazing reviews due to its easy to use Interface and extended functionality and is now considered to be one of the best Mobile based wallets. Coinomi allows users to send, receive and store Ethereum, Bitcoin and more than 270 alternative coins which are truly amazing.

Not only it allows users to store, receive or send coins but it also has integrated with shapeshift which allows swapping between any cryptocurrency instantly using Coinomi mobile app just doing a few taps and you can exchange ETH for BTC instantly.

Again the private keys are stored on your mobile device and Coinomi has no hold on your coins which makes users completely owner and responsible of their coins, this wallet is HD and provides backup phrases and pins that can be used as a recovery in case of lost and are advised to store offline.

The above-mentioned options are the best options to consider regarding authenticity as none of the mentioned platforms is scam related but are completely legitimate options, however, it depends on users requirement whether to chose or not between any of them as Ethereum is growing its value and may become more and more popular as Bitcoin as it is still second in the line.
